The U.S. Embassy in Tirana has introduced the new American ambassador to Albania, Eric Wendt, through a message on social media.
In its post, the embassy invites citizens to get to know the ambassador and listen to his messages on priorities for strengthening relations between the two countries.
The full message from the American chief diplomat:
Nice to meet you! I am Eric Wendt, the new Ambassador of the United States of America to the Republic of Albania. As I begin my duties as Ambassador of the United States to Albania, I want to express my gratitude to President Trump and Secretary Rubio for their trust. I also want to thank the people of Albania for their warm hospitality and friendship toward the United States of America.
During my previous military service, together with the Special Forces of Albania, as well as during my earlier travels across Albania, where I met ordinary Albanians in their everyday lives, I saw firsthand that Albanians are an extraordinarily hospitable, hardworking and proud people. In the coming months, under my leadership as Ambassador, the U.S. Embassy will carry out an assessment process that will help shape our way forward.
As part of this process, I look forward to visiting various regions of Albania. In line with standard diplomatic practice, I will hold meetings with the political representatives elected by you, as well as with government officials, military leaders, representatives of the business community, the justice system, and leaders in other fields.
At the same time, I look forward to meeting American and Albanian citizens. We will discuss both traditional approaches and new, creative ways to cooperate effectively in the future, focusing on three key areas of mutual benefit for the United States of America and Albania:
First: To become stronger. We grow stronger when we build real defense capabilities and when each of us fulfills our part as allies.
Second: To become more prosperous. We will find ways to increase trade, investment and opportunities, bringing mutual benefits for Americans and Albanians.
Third: To become safer. We will cooperate to fight transnational crime and to protect our shared interests.
As we carry out this assessment process in the coming months and define the path forward toward a stronger, more prosperous and safer future, I also look forward to learning more about the Albanian people and your proud history, and to experiencing your legendary hospitality once again.
I am truly honored and blessed to have the opportunity to serve in Albania as Ambassador of the United States. The United States and Albania share a strong history, a deep friendship and mutual respect. Together, we can achieve concrete results. Let’s move forward together!
