Analyst Altin Gjeta has commented on the political situation in the country, claiming that Prime Minister Edi Rama is trying to manage the crisis and the protests through two scenarios. According to Gjeta, the first scenario involves an attempt to suppress the students’ revolt through police violence and then to portray it as a movement driven by dark interests.
The second scenario, according to the analyst, foresees the strengthening of the protests and the prime minister being forced to enter negotiations with important international actors, with the aim of gaining additional time for the European integration process. Gjeta claims that Rama may seek around a year to close the integration chapters and secure a soft exit from leading the government.
The analyst also raised suspicions that the prime minister may exploit the European integration process to then move on to the post of President of the Republic, citing political developments in Serbia and Turkey as examples.
”The prime minister is in denial about the high temperature in Albania’s political body. He is trying to play with two scenarios. In the first scenario he is trying, through police violence, to suppress the students’ revolt, and then will attack it fiercely, as a movement of dark hands; the second scenario is where the revolt does not stop, grows stronger, and leaves him no other solution but to negotiate with important international actors. He will try for a behind-the-scenes negotiation in which he asks for additional time, about a year, to close the integration chapters and make a soft exit. Tactically, he will use this moment of success from integration to move to the Presidency. Just as Vučić and Erdoğan have done”, said on ”A2CNN”.
