The escalation of protests in Tirana has brought changes to the capital’s cultural calendar. Some artistic institutions have cancelled performances, while others have postponed activities until further notice.
The Puppet Theatre has suspended performances since 15 October, after the building was damaged by stone-throwing. The show “The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh” did not take place, but tickets will remain valid for the upcoming dates. The National Circus has also taken the same decision.
The National Theatre of Opera and Ballet has also closed its doors, cancelling the remaining October activities and asking spectators to request refunds for their tickets. The Metropol Theatre has postponed the premiere of “Sikur të isha djalë”, while there is still no new date for the show “1984” at the Experimental Theatre. The latter will resume activity over the weekend with the interactive children’s show “Kush i shpiku rregullat”.
In another development, the National Theatre invites the public to watch the work “Diaspora”, which addresses memory, identity and the experience of emigration. The protests have also affected the organisation of exhibitions, book promotions and other artistic activities in the capital.
