The tense situation and escalating protests in Tirana have prompted the country’s highest institutions and representatives of international diplomacy to take action.
President Bajram Begaj held a series of meetings on Tuesday with ambassadors from Western countries, including diplomatic representatives of the United States of America, the European Union and Germany, as well as with other diplomats accredited in Tirana.
As part of consultations on the situation, Begaj also received two former presidents of the Republic, Rexhep Meidani and Bamir Topi.
Discussions focused on the need to curb the escalation of the situation on the ground, to avoid the use of force and to create the conditions necessary for a political solution to the crisis.
The meetings come at a delicate moment, when de-escalating tensions and dialogue between the parties are considered essential to prevent the further deterioration of the situation.
