Activist Edlira Çepani has sharply criticized the police response to protesters, focusing attention on the injuries suffered by young people and teenagers during protests in recent days. She addressed Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja, showing him photos of the protesters who were assaulted.
Çepani paid particular attention to the case of a young man who is in hospital with serious injuries, including spinal damage and a fractured skull. According to the activist, these injuries are far more disturbing than the material damage on the boulevard, and she stressed that violence must be condemned without exception and without double standards.
“The bones, the spine of this young man who is in hospital and his fractured skull hurt me much more than the damage to the boulevard. This young man and many others, who have been dragged in the most barbaric way possible, worry me much more than the rhetoric of ‘we are sorry for what we are seeing.’ If we are all sorry about violence, we cannot have double standards. Violence against everyone must be condemned, especially against our young people and children who are in the square and face unacceptable treatment from the police”, Çepani stated on ”A2cnn”.
The activist also pointed out that one of the young people who was assaulted was linked to the cause of improving education and was protesting for a better education system, but ended up detained behind the railings of the Ministry of Education.
