Analyst Ilir Yzeiri says the violence and vandalism we have seen in recent days is fueled by social networks. According to him, students have been used in this protest, even though everyone has the right to protest. “This is the final chapter of a novel that began long ago. The protests that started on October 14 were an open lightning strike, and they make us understand that we are not immune to what is happening in Europe. This great anger is fed by social networks, and it is a battle that takes place online all the time. At first we had a protest about a specific issue, but then other narratives were superimposed on this anger.
Let us not forget that we live in a world that is almost at war. Here there is undoubtedly interference from outside. Meanwhile, the anger of the flamingos is still there. The students’ grievances do not come because of education, but because of the social and political situation. The students were manipulated; they are the ones who can be sacrificed most quickly; they are the ones who demand quality”, Yzeiri said.
For Yzeiri, the protest is directed against a single person, Prime Minister Edi Rama. He stresses that the violence by protesters was carried out only so that the head of government would resign.
”We did not have a student protest. The powerful student protest was the one in 2018, which started and ended there. Usually protests start from the lecture halls, where they list their problems. All the resentment is only against Rama, where his removal is demanded at any cost.
This was an anarchist protest that aimed to take this great anger to the point of bringing the state to a standstill, so that the state would not function, and under these conditions he would have been forced to leave because of the violence, not because of a political ultimatum. The country would slide into anarchy because it would be left without a government”, Yzeiri said.
