The General Directorate of Prisons has decided to transfer the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, from the Institution for the Execution of Criminal Decisions (IEVP) in Durrës to the one in Fier.
The move is reportedly the result of a decision by the Directorate of Prisons and not at Veliaj’s own request.
The mayor had been held in pretrial detention in Durrës since February 2025, when he was arrested as part of investigations by the Special Prosecution Office (SPAK).
So far, the official reasons that led to his transfer to IEVP Fier have not been made public.
