The Socialist majority on Thursday voted in the Assembly on the law for the Bank of Albania, amid strong objections from the opposition, which accused Edi Rama’s government of using the force of cardboard [placards/cards] to protect its political interests.
According to the opposition, the Socialists lined up to support the government’s legislative initiative, raising questions about the motives and the manner in which the parliamentary majority is acting.
At the centre of the debate was also the presence of Socialist MP Milva Ekonomi, who, according to the opposition’s claims, was called from the hospital to take part in the vote. Belinda Balluku was seen in the Assembly hall during the developments that accompanied the approval of the law.
Prime Minister Edi Rama left the Assembly hall immediately after the vote concluded, at a time when political clashes between the parties continued to be intense.
