Marash Logu, Secretary for Legal and Electoral Affairs in the Democratic Party, said in a statement to the media that the party’s lawyers represented 28 protesters today, for whom the court ordered their immediate release. According to him, since October 13, the party’s legal team has offered assistance to 432 detained protesters, of whom 184 protesters were released immediately.
“While it has represented in court 248 arrested protesters, of whom 239 protesters have been released by court decision,” Logu said. He made clear that in every case where a precautionary measure has been imposed, the DP will pursue all legal avenues and file an appeal with the Court of Appeal as soon as the relevant decisions are made public.
“Likewise, for every case of police violence we will seek criminal accountability. So far we have filed two criminal complaints and are gathering evidence for four other complaints,” he said. According to him, violence against protesters cannot go unpunished, and the law must be equal for everyone.
Logu said the Democratic Party is fully prepared to guarantee the rights of every protester, respect due legal process, and hold accountable anyone who violates the law.
