As part of the 32nd edition of the Tirana International Fair (TIF32), a one-day conference titled “INVEST & COMPLY IN ALBANIA – Inspection in the Service of Business and Investment” was held, with the participation of major inspectorates and business representatives. The event, attended also by Prime Minister Edi Rama and Minister of Economy and Innovation Delina Ibrahimaj, aimed to inform foreign businesses and potential investors about the legal framework, obligations, standards and inspection procedures they need to be aware of in order to conduct their activity in Albania.
The conference was held in three thematic panels, focusing on food safety, environment & climate, and labour relations. Discussions involved representatives of the General Inspectorate, managers and experts from central inspectorates, as well as business representatives, who addressed food safety and traceability standards, environmental obligations and sustainable investment, as well as workplace safety, employment of foreigners and employer responsibilities. Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the launch of a series of roundtables with various business sectors and categories, to hear directly their concerns and proposals for reducing the bureaucratic burden.
“Today we are at a moment of our transformation, where the government has decided to reduce VAT on all basket products, but also directly on the price of fuel at the pump. We can make a new housing policy, we can create new spaces for young couples, we can create new spaces for students, we can become, as a government, co-financiers of rents. This is the direct result of an economy that is growing, and an economy that is growing is a reflection of an entrepreneurship that is growing, improving and creating more for all of us together.
We will launch a cycle of roundtables with all sectors and all categories of entrepreneurship to hear directly from entrepreneurs their concerns and ideas for reducing the pressure of bureaucratic burden. Rapid digitalization and the transformation of services or of the way the state functions, in relation to the citizen and vice versa, including the use of artificial intelligence, helps us greatly in what is a daily struggle of everyone against corrupt practices.
The main goal of the General Inspectorate and of all inspection bodies must be prevention. It is not our aim to necessarily catch business in error. Our aim is for business to continuously improve its position in relation to the standards it must meet. Surprise inspections must come to an end. For this reason, all inspectors of the General Inspectorate will soon finally be dressed in civilian uniform, with suits and ties. All inspectors, male and female, will have intelligent body cameras that will be connected in real time to the center”, said Rama.
