The Supreme Court has announced that it has decided to postpone the hearing of all non-urgent cases, following a fire that broke out in its building last Saturday.
In a statement to the media, the Court says the extraordinary situation has affected the normal conduct of judicial activity, making it necessary to take measures to fully assess the damage and ensure the integrity of judicial documentation.
“As a result of the fire caused during the protests, on 17 October 2026, the premises of the Supreme Court suffered material and infrastructural damage, including court files. This extraordinary situation has affected the normal conduct of judicial activity, making it necessary to take measures to fully assess the damage and ensure the integrity of judicial documentation.
In these circumstances, court hearings scheduled to take place at the Supreme Court, except for cases of an urgent nature, will be postponed until the completion of the process of verifying the damage, recording and assessing the condition of the court files, and restoring the conditions necessary for the regular functioning of the institution.
The Supreme Court has mobilised all its human resources and has undertaken, with full responsibility and commitment, every necessary measure to address this unprecedented situation. The Court’s priority remains the accurate assessment of the damage and the identification and verification of the damaged judicial documentation. The staff of the Supreme Court are aware of the importance of the continuity of judicial proceedings and of the impact this situation may have on the litigating parties, their legal representatives and all users of the justice system.
