Paraguay’s President Santiago Peña has announced his resignation following a crisis triggered by the collapse of the Ueno bank, which left some 3 million clients without access to their bank accounts.
“I have decided to resign to protect the institutions and social peace,” Peña said, stressing that restoring citizens’ savings remains a priority.
The crisis sparked protests and strong political pressure on the president, while the opposition had already initiated proceedings to remove him from office.
