A wave of bomb threats has put several European airports on alert, forcing flights to be diverted and security checks to be carried out on some aircraft.
Two bomb alarms were reported this morning. The first involved a Ryanair plane, flying from Rome, which landed in Lisbon at around 08:00. After receiving the threat, Portuguese authorities activated a security operation and are verifying the reliability of the information.
Another alarm was reported for a Wizz Air flight from Prague to Rome. The plane was diverted to Venice, where police began the relevant checks.
According to Eurocontrol data, threats were reported for 14 flights on November 5 alone, while seven other cases were recorded on November 3. In total, the number of bomb threats in European airspace has reached 21.
Meanwhile, an Aer Lingus plane flying from Dublin to Rome was forced to divert to a military base in Normandy due to a similar threat. After checks, the passengers continued their journey to their destination.
However, according to Eurocontrol, these incidents affected a very small portion of European air traffic and had no impact on overall network delays. The organization is monitoring the situation in cooperation with airlines, airports and the relevant authorities.
