The head of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has categorically rejected the possibility of withdrawing from politics and leaving the leadership of the opposition, arguing that such a step would directly serve Prime Minister Edi Rama. Asked whether he would be willing to step aside to open the way for a new development in the opposition, Berisha described the request as absurd, declaring: ”This will never happen. It would mean strengthening Edi Rama”.
Berisha intensified his accusations against the majority, describing Parliament as an institution captured by crime and calling for the current political system to be brought to an end. “This is the parliament of crime, and this system must end one minute sooner,” he stated, linking this position to accusations of corruption and manipulation of the electoral process.
According to Berisha, Parliament does not represent the will of citizens, since, as he claimed, “it emerged from an electoral farce” and has become a “shield for the unimaginable thefts of Albanians”. Continuing his statements, Berisha leveled serious accusations against Socialist MP Taulant Balla, whom he described as one of the most dangerous figures in the country. He claimed that Balla communicated in parliament through several phones with persons linked, according to him, to criminal clans.
These statements are accusations made by the leader of the opposition and do not, in themselves, constitute proven facts. Berisha also addressed the students and high school pupils who have been protesting, praising their courage and expressing confidence that they will emerge victorious from the confrontation. “Never has the boulevard of Tirana and its streets seen girls and boys braver than these high school students and university students,” he declared.
