The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has called on Albanian citizens, parents, young people and the diaspora to support the high school and university students of Tirana who, according to him, have faced violence and mistreatment during the protests of recent days.
In a public statement, Berisha described the coming day as important, stressing that young people need the solidarity of Albanians more than ever. “Since the 13th until today, in the streets and squares of Tirana, uniformed narco-gangs have behaved in the most brutal manner, with barbaric acts against students and high school students of Tirana,” Berisha declared.
He claimed that during the protests hundreds of young people, including minors, have been mistreated, detained and arrested. Berisha also accused the police of excessive use of force and various means during interventions against protesters. The DP leader compared the situation with the 1990s, claiming that Tirana had never before seen such a level of violence against young Albanians.
In conclusion of the statement, Berisha repeated his call for support for the students and high school students, describing their confrontation as an “epic battle” and calling for the solidarity of citizens on the coming day. Berisha’s statements and accusations against the police are his own claims, which have not been independently verified in this material.
