Sali Berisha has responded to Prime Minister Edi Rama after the latter accused the opposition of seeking to repeat the events of January 21, using minors in violent protests. On Monday, speaking outside the SPAK (Special Prosecution Against Organized Crime and Corruption) office, Berisha described the prime minister as “the biggest arsonist in the history of the nation,” accusing him of the mass exodus of young Albanians from the country and of damaging the economy through the abuse of public funds.
“It is he who has burned and destroyed the dreams of around 720,000 young Albanians during his time in power,” Berisha said, claiming that young people have been forced to leave Albania in search of a better future.
The PD leader also raised corruption allegations against the government, naming Lubi Balluku and Ergys Agasi. “With Lubi Balluku and Ergys Agasi, more than 12 billion euros have been looted from Albanians’ taxes. Roads have been built at 10 times the cost in Europe,” Berisha stated.
He continued his attacks on the prime minister, linking his governance to the economic situation of Albanian pensioners. “Is there a bigger arsonist than Rama, than the man who has driven the Albanian pensioner to talk to himself?”, said the opposition leader. Berisha described the protest as a mission to change the political situation in the country and confirmed the Democratic Party’s support for the civic revolt. ”The protest, the revolt, is the mission to liberate this nation. He is responsible for this catastrophe. The PD supports this revolt with all its strength until its victory,” Berisha declared.
