Prime Minister Edi Rama has asked ministers to obtain the resignations of heads of state agencies under their authority, both in Tirana and in the regions. This concerns more than 130 managers at central and local level.
The process will take place in two phases.
First, the managers will formally submit their resignations, but this does not mean they will leave their posts immediately. During this period, they will continue to carry out their functions until further steps are completed.
The second phase will focus on analysing the performance of each manager, in order to assess their results and determine whether they will continue in the administration.
The move is also seen in the context of the new role of the Minister of Public Administration, Adea Pirdeni, who was voted in Parliament one day earlier and sworn in at the Presidency.
This is not the first time the head of government has requested the resignation of managers of state institutions. According to reports, similar requests were also made in 2021 and 2023.
It remains to be seen which managers will continue in their posts after the assessment and how much this process will affect the reorganisation of the public administration.
