The OSCE Parliamentary Assembly’s Special Representative for South-Eastern Europe, Claude Haagen, has expressed concern over recent developments during protests in Albania, calling for calm and dialogue.
Haagen stressed the importance of respecting the right to peaceful protest, while calling for any act of violence or excessive use of force by the police to be investigated in accordance with the law.
He also underlined the need to guarantee the safety of journalists and media freedom while reporting from the protests.
Finally, the OSCE representative urged the government, the opposition and citizens to engage in constructive dialogue, placing the rule of law and respect for fundamental freedoms above confrontation.
