The Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi, received the European Union Ambassador to Albania, Sofia Moreira de Sousa, who handed over the 2026 Progress Report from the European Commission. The report reflects the progress of reforms and the country’s advancement in the EU accession negotiations, highlighting achievements, challenges and priorities that require further institutional commitment.
According to the report’s assessments, Albania has made progress in several key areas of European integration, most notably the opening of all six negotiating clusters, which include 33 chapters, as well as the provisional closure of four of them. The progress report also highlights reforms in justice, the fight against corruption, economic growth, reduction of public debt, digital transformation, energy, education, science and innovation.
The report also assesses Albania’s full alignment with the EU’s foreign and security policy, as well as the financial support received through the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans. After receiving the report, Speaker Niko Peleshi stressed that the institution he leads will consider the assessments and recommendations responsibly, continuing work to align Albanian legislation with European standards and strengthen parliamentary oversight.
The Parliament of Albania is expected to play an important role in fulfilling the priorities set out in the report, in support of advancing reforms and the integration process. Albania’s strategic objective remains EU membership, with the aim of concluding negotiations by the end of 2027.
