The PS parliamentary group leader, Taulant Balla, has reacted for the first time to the accusation by Mayor Erion Veliaj that today’s transfer from the prison in Durrës to the one in Fier is a “police abduction and political transfer”. Invited on the show “Koha Jonë-Debat”, facing Nikoll Lesi, Balla said he will contact the Minister of Justice to get information.
Excerpt from the debate
Lesi: Veliaj has written that the transfer to the Fier prison is a political revenge by the General Directorate of Prisons. Which institution does this depend on?
Balla: On the Minister of Justice?
Lesi: Yes, does the Minister of Justice oversee it?
Balla: And I’ll give you the floor as soon as I stop here. I will ask the Minister of Justice what the situation is, because I have received the same similar concern from former President Ilir Meta, about inadequate treatment.
Lesi: What is being done to Meta in prison is unfair.
Balla: Unfair, and here I guarantee with responsibility before the public that I have passed this on to the Minister of Justice and the General Director of Prisons, as for any other citizen, and not only for Erion Veliaj, whom I count as a friend. And certainly I have kept a distance in my statements regarding the case, as I have done with all cases.
