Bayern Munich coach Vincent Kompany was taken to hospital on Friday after collapsing following a training session. The German club said the 40-year-old was observing training when the incident occurred, causing immediate concern within the club’s facilities.
Bayern Munich stressed that Kompany will undergo further examinations at the hospital and will remain under medical care. Meanwhile, his coaching staff will manage training activities and those related to upcoming matches. This measure ensures the continuity of the team’s work while the coach takes the time needed to recover.
Sporting director Max Eberl said Kompany will be given “all the time he needs” to fully recover. Eberl stressed that Vincent Kompany’s health is the club’s top priority, adding that FC Bayern will do everything to ensure a swift and complete recovery, providing all the necessary medical care and support.
Earlier, Bayern had announced that Kompany had a viral infection, which forced him to miss a training session and a press conference on Tuesday. However, he returned to the bench for Wednesday’s match, a 2-2 draw against Arsenal in the Champions League. After that match, Kompany admitted he had tried to play through the illness and had not listened to his body’s signals. Bayern Munich’s next match is against Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
