Cristiano Ronaldo has been suspended for one month and fined €255 by the Portuguese Football Federation, but the financial penalty has sparked reactions in Portugal. According to calculations by the newspaper “A Bola”, the Portuguese star needs only 36 seconds on the pitch to pay off the fine.
The Portuguese Football Federation has made the sanctions against the striker official, following his unauthorized departure from the national team camp during the recent break for the UEFA Nations League matches.
In addition to the one-month suspension, Ronaldo has been fined €255, an amount considered symbolic given his extraordinary earnings at Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia.
According to calculations published by “A Bola”, the fine represents only 0.00012 percent of his annual salary. This means the 41-year-old striker needs only 36 seconds of play to earn the amount necessary to pay it.
This very figure has fueled debate in Portugal, where the financial punishment imposed on one of the highest-paid footballers in the world has been seen more as a symbolic warning than as a punitive measure with real impact.
Nevertheless, the one-month suspension is not expected to prevent Ronaldo from returning to the national team, as the measure will end before the next training camp planned by coach Jorge Jesus.
