Manchester United has stepped up its search for a new coach, and one of the names on the club’s list of candidates is Didier Deschamps. The former France national team coach is seen as a possible candidate to take charge of the “Red Devils”, but for now he does not appear ready to return to the dugout.
According to the French media outlet “Foot Mercato”, United’s directors recently contacted Deschamps to find out whether he would be interested in taking charge of the team at “Old Trafford”.
The situation at the English club remains unstable, and with disappointing results and pressure from fans, questions have grown over the future of Michael Carrick. Although United recorded a spectacular 3-2 win over Roma in the Champions League, the directors are considering various alternatives for the head coaching role.
Julian Nagelsmann and Unai Emery are also mentioned among the candidates. The latter, however, appears close to renewing his contract with Aston Villa.
Deschamps, who led France for 14 years, has not ruled out a return to club football, but wants to take the necessary time before deciding on his future.
He also has experience in English football, having been part of Chelsea during the 1999-2000 season. His name has also been linked with Real Madrid, but the Spanish club chose Jose Mourinho at that time.
