One day after being transferred to Fier prison, Erion Veliaj continues to be held in the most difficult sector of the institution, in conditions that his lawyer, Plarent Ndreca, describes as degrading. However, according to Ndreca, Veliaj appears emotionally calmer after meeting with his family.
In a statement after this evening’s meeting, the lawyer also raised concerns about the way the General Directorate of Prisons officially communicated the transfer. According to him, the institution took 32 hours to issue a notice, describing the matter as part of the investigative secrecy, which, according to Ndreca, hinders the exercise of the right to appeal.
The lawyer considered this situation consistent with the concerns raised by the Socialist Party parliamentary group, highlighting the demand for the resignation of Minister Gogu.
Ndreca stressed that the response of the Prison Directorate remains unclear and non-transparent. For this reason, he made known that he will continue to pursue the matter through legal channels.
