Lawyer Plarent Ndreca, counsel for Erion Veliaj, stated that he was prevented from meeting his client at the Fier prison, despite the right the law grants him to hold meetings at any time.
Ndreca said he had waited for about 20-30 minutes discussing the matter with the guard officer, but was not allowed to enter.
“The lawyer, just like the prosecutor and the judge, enters at any time to meet the client,” he told the media.
Ndreca described the situation as “an absurd violation,” stressing that he does not need authorization from the Prison Directorate to exercise his right.
According to him, the meeting had been arranged in advance to communicate with and interview Veliaj, but it did not take place due to the refusal of prison staff.
