Sali Berisha has welcomed the protest held by students and the opposition in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, describing it as a strong response to the government’s decisions.
The leader of the Democratic Party thanked thousands of students and citizens who took part in the rally, stating that with their stance they had, in his words, overturned the efforts of Prime Minister Edi Rama to stop the student revolt.
“With their courage, bravery and determination, they buried the dictatorial decrees of the godfather in Tirana’s garbage bins,” Berisha said.
He said he had expected such a reaction from students and citizens, who, in his view, gave the government the appropriate response by ignoring the acts that had been adopted.
“I was most confident they would give the most deserved response, total disregard, throwing the anti-constitutional and unlawful acts into the trash,” said the Democratic Party leader.
In conclusion, Berisha warned that the opposition will not recognise any decision that, in his view, violates constitutional rights and citizens’ freedoms.
“No legal act that contradicts the Constitution, no restriction of the freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution and the European Convention on Human Rights will ever be respected by the Democratic Party,” he concluded.
