Dashnor Sula, a deputy of the Democratic Party, has responded to the protests of the past eight days in Albania, calling on citizens to avoid violence and to continue demanding their rights through peaceful protests.
Today he is the General Chief Inspector, and in his statement he says he has followed the developments of recent days with concern, while stressing that the right to protest is an essential element of democracy. He points out that grievances should not turn into acts of violence, warning that they may also harm causes that stem from legitimate demands.
“An injustice cannot be punished with an even greater injustice”, said the head of the General Inspectorate, who called on protesters not to allow anger to reach uncontrollable proportions. Sula also addresses the clashes between demonstrators and the State Police, recalling that both protesters and officers have families waiting for them at home.
“Young people who take to the streets in protest must have the guarantee that they will return safe and sound to their homes. Just like the protesters, State Police officers also have families waiting for them and the right to return to them at the end of the day.
Therefore, this is an appeal that comes from the depths of my soul to everyone who is in the square: avoid violence, do not allow anger to reach uncontrollable proportions, and do not replace the power of argument with brutal acts. The arguments of citizens carry far more weight and voice than violence”, Sula wrote.
