Dashnor Sula, a PD deputy and now chief inspector, commented on the recent protests, stressing that he believes words are more powerful than stones. On the other hand, he says Albania is on the path toward the European Union.
“I feel sorry for what is happening in Albania, but I am very glad that there have been no loss of life in the protests, which for two weeks have not been normal and have had strong intensity. Protest is a right sanctioned by the Constitution, and everyone must be guaranteed the right to protest peacefully. I am with the principle that words have more power than stones. We Albanians must not forget where we came from. We came from a dictatorial system where we had nothing. In the years 1990-1993 we did not even have bread to eat.
We entered a difficult cycle of violence in 1997, in which everything was destroyed, and we must not forget how far Albania had progressed until then. Even in 1997 we were very close, since we had signed the Stabilisation and Association Agreement and had begun to integrate into international organizations, but a moment came when we were struck. Even foreign factors who do not wish this country well, I was in the prosecutor’s office, in the justice system, and I saw many things that should not have happened then. Even today, the same situation. Today we are in the decade of the EU. The problems that exist must be seen and corrected, but we must also see how far we have come.
Albania today is not the Albania of the ’90s. This is an Albania where even the demands of young people have grown. Before 1993 we wanted to secure food; today all standards and demands have grown. The capitalist system has its own problems, but what matters is that at least Albania is on the path toward the European Union”, Sula said on ”A2CNN”.
