Prime Minister Edi Rama has called on students and citizens who oppose the government to distance themselves from acts of violence, stressing that peaceful protest is a fundamental right in a democratic society. He said peaceful protest remains an inviolable right of citizens, also referring to participation in the latest rally. According to Rama, at its peak the crowd reached about 1,500 people, among whom, he said, there were idealistic students but also students influenced by radical ideas.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the ANTIFA movement, claiming that some of the participants had been radicalized by theories that link violence to the achievement of political objectives. “I tell them to distance themselves from violence. Ideas are a matter of choice, violence is not an idea, it is a crime, an enemy of democracy and of freedom”, Rama said.
Concluding his statement, the head of government warned that in the coming days other information would be made public, without giving specific details about its content. “There is an hour to speak about everything. Today was this, tomorrow we will expose other things to share with everyone a conviction rooted in information and the functioning of institutions. The conviction that no one will remain unexposed”, the Prime Minister declared.
