The toll of the past two weeks of student protests stands at 347 injured people. Interior Minister Ervin Demo said that 107 of them are protesters, while 39 are bystanders, including journalists. In cases where the use of force was found to be disproportionate, he stressed that the State Police has taken measures and placed 7 officers under investigation.
”The past weeks have been very challenging for the State Police and a negative balance in terms of injuries. 347 people have been injured, and at the outset I do not want to make a distinction between State Police officers, protesters or bystanders. 107 protesters injured, 39 bystanders injured, including journalists.
These figures are a wake-up call regarding the level of violence and the proportional treatment that the State Police has applied.
The position of the Interior Ministry is clear: we guarantee the constitutional right, as well as proportional intervention. The State Police has taken the appropriate measures, 7 officers have been suspended and are under investigation, but also the AMP is working on dozens of cases that have been referred by citizens or investigations into specific cases”, Demo said.
