Student groups emerging from the protest are organizing in various forms to offer a political alternative already. The nationalist youth is one of them.
“The desire for changing the system must now be channeled from taking to the streets into a political movement. We are not currently at the stage of a party, but we want to reach that stage. So, we want to show our people the reality and tell them that we are the real opposition”, said Besart Capa, member of the Nationalist Youth.
The Nationalist Youth, which aims to become a political party, has not yet appointed a chairman, but so far has 300 members, and the internal group consists of 15 students who became known during the protest.
Laura Kërtalla, the representative of this new force, recently held a meeting with EU officials in Albania. Besart Capa, part of the Nationalist Youth, tells us about the conversation with them.
“The meeting with them was to make them aware that a new spirit has emerged in Albania that seeks to become a political factor in the future. They said that we should speed up the steps so that we can become a proper political party, so that it is easier for them to cooperate with a genuine party”, he stated.
The student list is another attempt by the protest to highlight non-partisan figures that the country needs. LS was created online by a technology professional who will not be identified, who has brought a digital platform where names with public weight are proposed and voted on by Albanians through a verified Google account that has already registered over 17,000 votes. Asked via email what the list of voted figures will serve for, it was stated: “The Student List arose from the desire to create a space where citizens can propose people they value, express support for them, and discuss ideas for the future. We often hear that “there are no good people” or that “the choice is between the same ones.” The aim is for the discussion to go beyond dissatisfaction and include concrete proposals. The list is not an official list of election candidates”.
The student list is coming in the form of a poll, but while the idea of preparing for an electoral campaign is not denied, it is clarified that the candidacy rules require a different process.
