The transfer of Tirana’s mayor, Erion Veliaj, from the Durrës Penitentiary Institution to the one in Fier has caused concern even within the Socialist Party. Speaking on the program “Shqipëria Live”, his lawyer, Plarent Ndreca, confirmed that Socialist deputies have requested information about Veliaj’s situation.

“More than 7-8 colleagues have called me, very worried, distressed about why this is happening and why things have reached this point,” Ndreca stated.
He emphasized that the defense is not asking for privileges for the mayor, but for the opportunity for him to carry out his duties. “The standard is the same for every citizen of Albania, and we are not asking for a privilege because of the position,” the lawyer said.
Ndreca also raised concern about the lack of official information from the responsible institutions. “We are currently in complete information darkness. Since yesterday at 4 p.m. I sent an official email and still have no response,” he concluded.
