The Court of Assizes has sentenced Mark Samson, Ilaria Sula’s former boyfriend, to life imprisonment. Ilaria Sula was killed at the age of 22. The verdict was reached after about three hours of deliberation by the panel of judges and was announced in the high-security courtroom of the Rebibbia prison.
The 24-year-old was found guilty of intentional murder aggravated by premeditation, trivial motives and the romantic relationship he had with the victim. He is also charged with concealing the body of the young woman after the crime.
After the sentence was announced, Ilaria Sula’s parents, Flamur and Gëzime Sula, reacted emotionally, stressing that the court’s decision cannot ease the pain of losing their daughter. “Justice has been served, but no court ruling will bring our daughter back to us,” they said.
