Full statement
Albania congratulates the Albanian Coalition and the Albanians of the Preševo Valley on their result in the parliamentary elections in Serbia. Developments in Serbia demonstrate the importance of civic engagement and of free voting as an expression of the democratic will. The civic energy that finds representation through institutions is an opportunity for change, but also a responsibility for those who receive the trust of citizens.
A special congratulation goes to the Albanian Coalition and the Albanians of the Preševo Valley, who have achieved an important result in these elections. According to preliminary projections, two parliamentary mandates are in prospect, while the race for a third mandate remains open. This representation should serve to advance the rights of Albanians, guarantee equal treatment and address their legitimate concerns.
In this new political chapter for Serbia, normalizing relations with the Republic of Kosovo remains an essential responsibility. Albania expects constructive engagement in the dialogue mediated by the European Union, respect for and implementation of the agreements reached, as well as concrete steps toward sustainable good-neighborly relations. Political change should create new opportunities also for peace and cooperation in the region.
Albania remains ready to cooperate with the institutions that will emerge from this electoral process, on the basis of mutual respect, shared interests and commitment to a more stable, more secure Western Balkans oriented toward the European future.
