Israelis vote tomorrow in parliamentary elections that will determine whether Benjamin Netanyahu, the longest-serving prime minister in the country’s history, remains in power or whether Israel changes political direction.
These are the first national elections since the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023, and the wars that followed in Gaza, Lebanon and Iran. For many voters, they represent an opportunity to assess the government’s responsibility for the country’s security and to decide who should lead Israel in the future.
Netanyahu’s government has faced criticism over its nationalist and religious policies, corruption allegations against the prime minister, and the judicial overhaul, which sparked massive protests in 2023.
However, the election result may not produce an immediate answer, as the formation of a new government will depend on negotiations to build a parliamentary coalition.
