Prime Minister of Kosovo Albin Kurti has announced that the next update of the database on war victims in Kosovo is expected to be published at the end of January 2027. Kurti made the announcement during a visit to the Institute for Crimes Committed During the War in Kosovo. There he met with the institute’s executive director, Atdhe Hetemi, and received its annual work report, according to Koha Jonë.
According to the prime minister, the database is updated daily with new information and evidence. The new results will be made public after six months, at the end of January 2027. He recalled that at the end of July, a preliminary list was published with 13,195 people killed during the period 1998–2000, who have been verified so far.
“The database is updated every day, while the new results of the update will be published after six months, which falls at the end of January 2027,” Kurti said during the visit. During the meeting, the prime minister praised the institute’s achievements in documenting war crimes and its cooperation with institutions, organizations and citizens.
Among the activities of IKKL, Kurti mentioned the completion of more than 127 interviews with survivors under the project “Memory of the Massacres,” out of about 1,000 interviews planned in total. He stressed that the documentation and archiving of testimonies are of particular importance not only for preserving historical truth, but also for the justice system and for uncovering accountability for crimes committed during the war.
According to him, the continuous collection of information and testimonies aims to complete the picture of the victims and the crimes. It is expected that other names will be verified in the coming months. The publication of the preliminary list in July with 13,195 verified victims for the period 1998–2000 so far marks the most complete result of this documentation process.
The Office of the Prime Minister has not provided further details on the content of the upcoming update, which is expected to be made public at the end of January 2027.
