The candidate of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) for prime minister and former president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, acknowledged the defeat of his list in the snap parliamentary elections.
“Based on the sample, it is clear that we have lost these elections. The Student List has won, which will have between 135 and 140 seats, while we have around 105 seats,” Vučić said.
“We have around 1,720,000 votes, while they have around 2,200,000,” he added.
The Serbian Progressive Party had been in power since 2012.
Hundreds of citizens have gathered on a central street in Belgrade, where flares have been lit and the horns of vehicles can be heard.
From the headquarters of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), Vučić stated that they do not yet have the final results, but that, based on the stratified sample, “it is clear that they have lost these elections”.
“We do not have final results. Many will be surprised and you will understand how much some have lied and what they have fabricated. I want to inform you that the list of blockading students has won. They will have between 135 and 140 seats, while we have around 105”, said Vučić.
As he added, the Alliance of Hungarians of Vojvodina is also expected to enter parliament, and one seat is for the Albanian party in the Preševo Valley. “The Hungarians of Vojvodina have entered with three seats and the Albanians with one seat, as well as, I believe, the SDA, but don’t hold me to that for sure. So, we have around 1,720,000 votes. I’m telling you based on the sample, this is completely insignificant. They have around 2,200,000”, said Vučić.
Addressing all those who had said that he would flee, Vučić stated that everything they had said was a lie. “Since they said someone would flee, would pack their bags, that someone was afraid of them, that someone would hide, they have lied about everything they said. They also lied about the voice of the various European countries and of the deep American state, the one that is against President Trump”, said Vučić.
He emphasized that the coalition around the SNS won everywhere Serbs live in the region: in Republika Srpska, in Montenegro, in North Macedonia and everywhere else. “We won in Kosovo among the Serbs, and I know that for many people tonight is difficult”, Vučić emphasized. “We will fight and we will show what the opposition is, proud of everything we have done”.
“He added that he is proud of everything his party has done in power.
“Some businessmen, some people will leave us now, but our structure is very stable. We are very united, very strong; we have learned from being in opposition. Most of us have spent more time in opposition than in government. As for the claims that we will not accept it, that I will declare other results, I tell you in advance”, said Vučić.
