On the occasion of the 155th anniversary of the birth of Father Gjergj Fishta, writers, poets and scholars gathered in Lezhë for the fifth edition of the literary awards bearing the name of the national poet. This year’s competition drew 83 works by authors from Albanian-speaking lands, which competed in three categories: poetry, prose and translation. A novelty of this edition was the “Gjurmë Fishtjane” award, created to promote works that preserve and convey the traces of Fishta’s creativity and legacy.
The jury, chaired by writer Preç Zogaj and with members Suela Mino and Gani Mehmetaj, selected the most outstanding works of this edition. The “Gjurmë Fishtjane” award was given to Zef Përgega for the book “Epika Malësore”. In the poetry category, the award for the best poetry collection went to Rudolf Marku, while Flutura Açka was declared the winner for the best prose. The translation award was given to Agron Tufa for the novel “Gropa e themelit”.
Beyond the recognition of contemporary creativity, the activity aims to keep alive interest in the work of Father Gjergj Fishta and his role in the development of Albanian literature, culture and national identity. The celebrations in Lezhë, on the 155th anniversary of his birth, also serve as a meeting space for creators and scholars, giving attention to Albanian literature and to authors who contribute to enriching it.
