Chief Inspector Dashnor Sula speaks about the protests and Prime Minister Rama’s order regarding recent resignations. Asked whether he would resign if asked to, Sula stressed that he has been leading the General Inspectorate for seven months, where, in his view, he has found many serious problems but has also achieved concrete results. Appearing on “Top News”, Sula revealed a communication with Prime Minister Edi Rama dated August 12, in which, according to him, the head of government urged that appointments be based on meritocracy and not on personal connections. “Don’t listen to these people at all, listen to me, my friend, choose the most suitable one”, Sula quoted Rama’s message, when asked about the resignations demanded in the public administration.
Journalist: Would you resign?
Sula: As a citizen, a parent and a state employee, I express my regret for the whole situation our country is in, given also the injuries and problems during the protests. It is not normal for protesters to be injured or for police officers who are on duty to be injured.
Journalist: More than 130 public administration heads have been asked to resign. If you are asked to resign, what will you do?
Sula: I have been in office for 7 months, appointed as Chief Inspector of the Republic of Albania, which is a very, extremely difficult task. I have found very major problems and, together with my close staff, with the support of the Prime Minister, I have also achieved concrete results. Improving the system, we are preparing for intelligent body cameras for every inspector, and online inspection at customs points. Have we achieved everything? No. Are there problems within my institution, which has 2,100 inspectors? Without doubt, there are many problems. The main thing is that my moral integrity as head of the institution, I say it personally and directly to viewers, is that there is no chance that a businessman or a person could corrupt me for appointments, disciplinary measures, etc. I have had interventions from both the right and the left. I have had strong support from the Prime Minister.
Journalist: So you will not resign, because you have shown personal and professional integrity.
Sula: I will tell you how principled the Prime Minister has been regarding the problems of the institution I lead.
Date August 12, communication with Edi Rama. Well, brother, those who are nobody’s children, how will it be with them? Whose child are you, for example, because I know you, your very respected father is not the reason you became who you are, is it? Now how is it with these, this one’s child, that one’s child? Don’t listen to these people at all, listen to me, my friend, choose the most suitable one…
