On Wednesday evening, the protest in front of the Prime Minister’s Office was marked by clashes between citizens and police officers. At the center of the incident were Edison Lika and Dritan Goxhaj, who were escorted away by police after refusing to accept the fines issued against them.
The two protesters objected to the measure, claiming that the authorities had been notified in advance of the protest. The police intervention triggered a reaction from the citizens present, who gathered in front of the police van in an attempt to prevent their escort.
The evening’s tensions follow a long day of protests held by students. The march began at the Polytechnic University, continued to the Faculty of Economics, and then to the Ministry of Education, where students stayed for several hours expressing their opposition. Afterwards, the protesters moved in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, where the gathering continues amid a heavy police presence and a tense situation following the escort of the two citizens.
