The Movement for National Development party has presented its view on how to resolve the situation the country is in following the student protests. Party leader Dashamir Shehi has supported the creation of a technocratic government, while also highlighting the immediate priorities that such a government should focus on.
”The government must have a broad base in order to take on these laws. First, it must block these four corrupt laws that have produced corruption, economic greed, and great economic damage. These have angered the people who have taken to the streets.
This kind of injustice, this kind of unchecked plunder, can be addressed by a government that is shared. It cannot be done by a single group. We believe the time has come that, if they want to open political space for these new groups that have emerged, they can no longer be done under the old law. The old electoral law was built for two parties, for two persons.
This too can only be done with consensus among the two sides that are inside. Of course, other changes can be made, but these four laws, the law on local elections that falls eight months from now, and the political elections that come after them, will be done quickly, and it is very possible to do so. These are the points that we believe would satisfy all sides of politics, create stability, and eliminate this permanent tension that exists here. The country cannot continue to live in fear, in danger, in the shadow of the old times returning”, said Shehi.
