The Council of Ministers has approved the draft law on ratification of the European Agreement on Abolition of Visas for Refugees, signed in Strasbourg on 20 April 1959. The document has now been submitted to the Parliament for review and approval.
The initiative was proposed by the Minister of Interior and aims to align Albanian legislation with European standards in the field of movement and status of refugees.
The draft law provides for the full ratification of the agreement, together with its accompanying text. If approved by the Parliament, the law will enter into force 15 days after publication in the Official Gazette.
The agreement, known as ETS 31, is part of the framework of European documents dealing with facilitating the movement of refugees. With this step, Albania continues the process of aligning its legal framework with the international instruments of the Council of Europe.
