President Bajram Begaj has decreed the law on Albania’s new administrative-territorial division. The reform, which provides for reducing the number of municipalities from 61 to 46, was accompanied by strong political debate and protests by residents in several cities.
With decree no. 580, signed on 31 October 2026, President Begaj has promulgated the law on the country’s new territorial division, following its approval in Parliament on 9 October.
