The President of Kosovo, Justina Shiroka Pula, has decided to return the Law on Amending and Supplementing the Law on Specialist Chambers and Specialist Prosecutor’s Office to the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo for reconsideration.
The President has accepted the official proposal of the Parliamentary Group of the Democratic Party of Kosovo, to give the Assembly the opportunity to reconsider it, particularly the provisions relating to the jurisdiction and mandate of the Specialist Chambers, as well as to fully guarantee the constitutional rights of persons being tried before these Chambers.
In the reasoning of the decision, President Shiroka Pula stressed the sacrifice, commitment and contribution of the Kosovo Liberation Army and its commanders in the struggle for the freedom and independence of Kosovo. She also recalled her support for the Declaration of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo of 28 September 2026, regarding the judgment of the Specialist Chambers in The Hague against Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi.
The President reaffirmed her opposition to any attempt to distort Kosovo’s historical truth, to question the liberating character of the war, or to equate the people who fought for freedom and survival with the regime that oppressed them.
The President also made known that she has held and is continuing consultations with representatives of the relevant state institutions and bodies, with the aim of coordinating inter-institutional and diplomatic actions for documenting, protecting and affirming the historical truth of the Kosovo Liberation War and the role of the Kosovo Liberation Army, as well as for the best possible protection of the rights and interests of its commanders who are being tried before the Specialist Chambers.
