Chairman of the Freedom Party, Ilir Meta, has leveled accusations against Prime Minister Edi Rama over developments at the Tirana Municipality and the situation of Mayor Erion Veliaj. In his public reaction, Meta claims that Rama is trying to take from Veliaj, through pressure and blackmail, the right of signature for the Municipality of Tirana, especially on the eve of elections. Meta also mocks Rama’s statements on European integration and the European Union’s Progress Report, which he describes as a “Regress Report”. According to him, Albania is moving away from European standards due to problems with the rule of law, elections and the functioning of institutions.

Shameless as never before, and exhausted even in vocabulary, Edi Rama borrowed today from the opposition the term “last kilometer” to sell publicly the “achievements” of the latest European Union Progress Report, which is nothing but an indisputable Regress Report for anyone who has the most superficial knowledge of the integration process.
In short, the European Commission’s Regress Report shows us that the rule of law does not function at all in reality, only on paper. Because the Parliament has lost its controlling and supervisory function over the Government (executive), and the opposition has been denied the parliamentary inquiry committees that the Constitution guarantees. Likewise, in Albania, Edi Rama is the guarantor of justice with double standards, or the guarantor of equality before the law as well as the (blackmailing) controller of the justice system.
Of course, the merging of the party with the state comes thanks to unequal and manipulated elections, which remain as such as a result of the non-investigation of electoral crimes, from the Dibra and Shijak files. Meanwhile, the “progress” of the public administration is proven by the fact that Albania has received zero funds from the European Union’s Growth Plan for Albania, due to the incompetence of the patronage administration, where every year hundreds and thousands of directors resign en bloc by order of the Party Chairman.
Even in the field of environment, “progress” is so great that it has provoked the largest protests in the country since the fall of communism, according to the Regress Report itself.
Used to selling failures as successes, Edi Rama continues his shallow monologue. But now, besides the last kilometer, which he “stole” from the opposition, he has also invented the “last centimeter” as an alibi to buy time for the endless agony in which he has plunged the governance of the most corrupt country in Europe. May he continue for 15 more years as Prime Minister, and he will invent the “last millimeter” too. So, no illusions about this public violator of the Constitution, the law, minors, children, high school students, university students, teachers, educators and all honest and patriotic Albanians, whom he has for years denied the opportunity for their country to be a worthy member of the European Union. You may have forgotten the history of Fier County, since 15 years have passed, but the illegal, one-party elections he held in June 2019, have you forgotten those? And the official request of the Bundestag at that time for Albania to hold pluralist local elections as a condition to open negotiations with the EU in October 2019 (that same year), have you forgotten that?
What did he need integration for, in front of the bowl of unlimited power? Look at what he is doing to his Mayor of Tirana to take by force and blackmail the right of signature for the Municipality (warehouse) of Tirana before the elections. This inventor of the “mirror” and “dialogue”, who even mocked the socialists of the 15 municipalities that he treacherously melted with a single pencil stroke. So it is time to end the agony of Edi Rama’s governance and the abyss that is moving us away from European standards.
