Ahead of the national student protest in Tirana, the State Police has increased security measures to ensure the gathering proceeds smoothly.
As part of the security plan, a water cannon truck has been positioned near the Parliament’s Presidency, while police forces have been deployed near key institutions.
Students, who have been continuing protests against the government for three weeks, are expected to gather first in front of the Ministry of Education. One of their main demands remains the resignation of Prime Minister Edi Rama.
The protest is then expected to continue in front of the Prime Minister’s Office, where supporters of the opposition will also join. It remains to be seen what route the protesters will follow and whether there will be a march toward other institutions.
