The US Embassy in Tirana has reacted to the protests, calling on the parties to exercise restraint and maintain calm. The call comes at a time when the protest was seen to have gotten out of control tonight.
“Violence, unrest, physical harm to others and destruction of property are not civic engagement. We call on all citizens who choose to demonstrate to exercise their right to peaceful protest, without violent acts. We call on all parties to exercise restraint and maintain calm”, the statement reads.
The students’ protest has escalated into violence and clashes between young people and police.
