Democratic Party MP Jorida Tabaku has criticized the 2027 draft budget, stating that the growth in budget revenues is a result of higher taxes, while clear priorities for economic development are missing. In an interview with News24, Tabaku addressed the situation in agriculture, the fason sector and production, stressing that the lack of support and fiscal uncertainty are creating difficulties for businesses.
“This is a budget that does not show where the incentives for the economy are,” she said, adding that chambers of commerce and business associations have described the package as “anti-business.” According to Tabaku, current policies risk affecting business activity, employment and the well-being of citizens. She particularly emphasized the tax burden on the middle class and the lack of a clear strategy for wages.
“It is a great drama that work is not valued, that work is over-taxed,” the Democratic MP declared. As an alternative for economic development, Tabaku called for more investment in education, linking it to the demands of the labor market, and support for the manufacturing sector. She also underlined the need for stable fiscal rules that give businesses security and predictability.
“Business needs to have security, taxes that do not change,” Tabaku said. During the interview, the MP also commented on the protests, linking economic dissatisfaction to social concerns. She stressed that the Democratic Party must reflect and open itself more to society and students, so that citizens’ dissatisfaction can be translated into political support. In conclusion, Tabaku said that, in her assessment, the government has exhausted its political cycle, while the opposition must build a more representative offer for citizens. “The protest showed that the government’s knees have started to shake,” she declared.
