Deputy Minister of the Interior Silva Caka said in Korçë that 7 police officers have been suspended from duty and are under investigation by the Police Oversight Agency, following the recent protests. Speaking at a meeting in Korçë on preventing child trafficking, she said 4 other persons are also under investigation, while 55 complaints have been filed by citizens alleging that police have exceeded their powers.
“Currently 7 officers have been suspended by the State Police itself, and they have been referred to the investigation of the Police Oversight Agency. Also, these have been referred by the State Police, we have 4 being investigated mainly by the AMP itself, and there are also 55 complaints, at least up to this moment we are speaking, there are 55 complaints from various citizens who have signaled the overstepping of duty by various police officers. All complaints will be reviewed and a response will be given.
It is very important that the young people and children who are taking part in this protest are made aware of individuals who are not there to help them advance their messages, but are there to also teach them how they should behave in a”, Caka said.
