The Speaker of the Serbian National Assembly, Ana Brnabić, has accused political opponents of preparing a campaign to arrest Aleksandar Vučić, following calls for him to be questioned over the tragedy at the Novi Sad railway station, where 16 people lost their lives.
In a reaction posted on the social network X, Brnabić described this development as an attempt at political persecution, claiming that the goal is not the establishment of justice but the removal of Vučić from politics.
According to Brnabić, less than 72 hours after the Student List won the election, a campaign has begun that aims to arrest Vučić. She considered the calls for him to be questioned to be unjustified, and demanded that the investigations also include the persons responsible for overseeing the project and approving the works at the railway station.
”They promised revolutionary terror, and we are seeing revolutionary terror. During the campaign, they did not let Aleksandar Vučić speak. During the election silence, they attacked him and lied about him and his family, because they knew that neither he nor any of us could respond, because we respect the laws of our country. Now, less than 72 hours after their electoral victory, they are beginning an action to arrest Aleksandar Vučić.
And for this they are giving the most idiotic explanations possible – imagine the president of a country being informed about the implementation of one of the largest projects in that country, and this is sufficient grounds for him to be questioned and suspected of the collapse of the canopy in Novi Sad?!? The persons suspected by the Audit Commission, who, in the name of their profession, checked the project and gave the green light without requesting additional checks, have not been questioned either. No. These people are on the Student List”, she wrote.
